PRESS REPORT
OVER PEOVER WOMEN’S INSTITUTE MEETING
THURSDAY 27th MARCH 2014
Voices were raised in Over Peover as Jerusalem was sung with great enthusiasm. Plans for producing our banner for the WI centenary celebrations next year are under way. Interest in the sale of Over Peover WI mugs, tea towels and canvas bags was revived. Reports were received of Group and Cheshire Federation meetings. Local opinion was being canvassed by the Parish Council on proposed improvements to the village playing field. A project was suggested to update our WI photo albums in time for the centenary.
Our president Mrs June Leech welcomed the speaker with some trepidation as the Rev. Michael Burgess had come to talk about “The Seven Deadly Sins”. We needn’t have worried as it soon became clear that he is the Kenneth Williams of the modern day church! With wickedly clever humour he made us laugh out loud until our sides were hurting whilst still neatly getting his message over. This was truly good entertainment.
Helen Norbury and Bernie Byrne provided the delightful cakes and the flowers which were sent to Audrey Mottershead. We meet at 7.30pm on the last Thursday of the month at Over Peover Village Hall. There is a friendly and welcoming atmosphere and speakers are invariably of a very high standard as are the homemade cakes and tea to follow. New members are very welcome.
