The President, Mrs June Leach welcomed 27 Members and 3 visitors. The first time the group have met for two months due to a power cut in Over Peover cancelling February’s meeting.
- A report was given on the Annual CFWI Council Meeting at Winsford, the speaker Derek Poulson spoke about “Origins of Regional Accents.
- A reminder of the Garden Open Day at Haughton Hall on 18th May.
- An invitation was offered to join Marthall and Ollerton W.I. on their trip to Bakewell Market on the 10th April.
- Lower Withington W.I have invited Members to attend their Cream Tea Afternoon to celebrate their 21st Birthday on 20th May, £3 a ticket either bought in advance or pay at the gate.
- Tickets are available for the Group Spring Meeting on Saturday 8th April from 2.00p.m. – 4pm at Plumley Village Hall, 5 members have kindly volunteered to be Hostesses.
- A new sink unit from B & Q has been ordered and arrangements made for fitting.
- Royal Cheshire Show entrants were encouraged, Stewards volunteered and 10 members offered to bake Tea Loaves
- Volunteers will be required next month to Spring Clean and plant up the tubs outside at the Village Hall.
Future Events
- The trip to Bury Market had been postponed because of bad weather and the new date is Wednesday 26th April.
- A visit to Bramhall Hall has been arranged for Wednesday 3rd May
- Tuesday 13th June a trip to Ashwood Nurseries in South Staffordshire has been arranged.
- The annual Christmas Carol service at Chester Cathedral will be on 6th December.
- A visit to Chatsworth House for the Christmas market is being investigated.
Social Events
- Invitations for the Garden Meeting in June are to be sent to Boothsmere, Cranford, Crosstown, Byley and Ollerton WIs. The catering committee will provide the refreshments.
- There will be a flower class on 11th April at 7.30pm in the Village Hall, the cost will be £2.50 with a further £2.50 donated to the Village Hall fund.Members should bring their own flowers, foliage etc.
- A circular walk on Friday 28th April has been arranged around Redesmere and Capesthorne, visitors welcome.
- Manor Farm at Byley is booked for the August meal, and Knutsford Golf Club for the Christmas meal on Thursday 30th November.
- Book Club will meet at on the 11th April at 10.30am, new members welcome.
Blood Bikers of Manchester, were the evening’s speakers who gave a very interesting and informative talk about the volunteers who transport blood and breast milk to hospitals in the Greater Manchester, Cheshire and Merseyside region, for 24 hours at weekends and from 7pm-6am every weekday evening when the NHS don’t provide this service. They own 15 bikes and are supported by 45 Volunteers with a variety of roles. They have been volunteering since 2011 supported by a further 70 Blood Bike Groups across the country, now including one new group in South Africa.
Fund Raising is essential, needing to raise a minimum £25,000 per year.
We meet at 7.30pm on the last Thursday of the month at Over Peover Village Hall. There is a friendly welcoming atmosphere and speakers are invariably of a very high standard as are the cakes and tea to follow. New members are most welcome.
