PRESS REPORT

OVER PEOVER WOMEN’S INSTITUTE MEETING

WITH AGM AND CHRISTMAS DINNER

THURSDAY 28th NOVEMBER 2013

The ladies of Over Peover WI know how to do business efficiently and enjoy themselves at the same time as they proved at the monthly meeting on 28th November. Information on outings including the carol service at Chester Cathedral on 4th Dec, votes for constitutional change and financial updates were all managed (with the help of a glass of sherry) and were followed by the AGM with the voting in of next year’s president and committee. Volunteers are never scarce here and soon all the ancillary jobs including catering, hosting, publicity, planning, reps, social and press were all filled. Heartfelt thanks were offered to those leaving posts and responsibilities were handed over. Nothing happens without organisation.

Finally, an excellent Christmas dinner was served by Jayne Rudd and her local catering team and this was followed by in-house entertainment in the form of humorous and festive poetry readings and quips on the theme of “Growing Old Disgracefully” which certainly seemed to amuse the members. In a reverse of the usual format, the evening ended with a very rousing rendering of Jerusalem with a backing track from Hubert Parry himself!

Our next meeting will be on Thursday 30th of January 2014 when we shall be treated to a talk about the history of the legendary Roberts Bakery. We meet at 7.30pm on the last Thursday of the month at Over Peover Village Hall. There is a friendly and welcoming atmosphere and speakers are invariably of a very high standard as are the homemade cakes and tea to follow. New members are always welcome.
