PRESS REPORT – OVER PEOVER WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
ANNUAL MEETING/MONTHLY MEETING/CHRISTMAS MEAL
THURSDAY 24th NOVEMBER 2011

June Leach opened the monthly meeting attended by 23 members. The village hall looked very festive with the Christmas tree and lights. Business was speedily handled and included details of a forthcoming show “Wonderful Town” at the Lowry on 31st March. A trip to see “Gaslight” at the Knutsford Little Theatre in which one of our members took part, had been very much enjoyed. Get well wishes were sent to Doreen Howlett and Connie Welton. Helen Norbury and John Welton were thanked for decorating the tree. Mary Bowers and Audrey Mottershead were thanked, not only for the efficient running of the village hall for an astounding 30 years but particularly for keeping it going for the last 12 months while there was no formal management committee.
The Annual meeting followed and dealt with the new auditor, the financial statement and the annual report. The retiring committee was thanked and a new committee appointed. Volunteers sprang to the call for duties and sub-committees for 2012. Mary Bowers and Audrey Mottershead were each presented with a “Jam & Jerusalem” rose in recognition of their work for the village hall.
The traditional Christmas meal was an indulgence of delicious food prepared and served by Jane Rudd and her delightful young staff. The warm atmosphere of friendship was increased by Mary Bowers’ choice of wines. This was further enhanced by a medley of entertainment organised by Viv Cunningham including poems, songs and monologues from Minty Day, Margaret Nightingale, Viv, Janet Winrow and Kathy Doyle. Jerusalem started proceedings which culminated in the singing of carols accompanied by Gareth Cunningham on the newly-tuned piano. The festive season was begun in true style and excellent company.
