PRESS REPORT
OVER PEOVER WOMEN’S INSTITUTE MEETING – THURSDAY 29th MARCH 2012
Co-president Connie Welton warmly welcomed the members of Peover WI to the March meeting. Much of the business revolved around arrangements for the village celebration of the Queen’s diamond jubilee on Sunday 3rd June at Over Peover Cricket Club in the centre of the village. This will include a fancy dress competition and bouncy castle and games for the children. There will be a marquee and a band will entertain us as we enjoy our picnic or barbecue. Kate Wadsworth from the village jubilee committee attended and asked if WI would like to help with the Royal memorabilia display. It was decided that members should try to dress in red, white and blue for the meeting on 31st May when cake and champagne will be served. Members were encouraged to attend our group meeting on 25th April in Knutsford when the Weaver Valley Choir will entertain. Members volunteered to enter various sections in the Cheshire Show – 19th/20th June. Julie Haighton gave us news of proposed outings to Buckingham Palace and Abbeywood Gardens. The recent Fizz Fashion Show for the Children’s Diabetes charity had raised a very healthy profit of £850.00.
Our speaker was Helen Avraam who gave us “An Introduction to Reiki”. Helen told us how she had been inspired to start learning about Reiki 12 years ago due to the illness of a friend’s daughter. She explained about auras and how the 7 layers of our aura can reach out to 20ft ahead of us. She touched on dowsing, energy fields and negative and positive polarity as well as the history of Reiki with its Japanese origins and Hawaiian connections. Not even the most sceptical among us could help being affected as she shared her personal experiences which helped to illustrate her incredible journey and the power of Reiki.
Rowena Topham and Rosemary Johnson provided the fabulous cakes and fancies which we enjoyed with our refreshment and the flowers which were sent to Doreen Howlett, our member who recently moved to the Mount Pleasant nursing home. The speaker at the next meeting will be Rosalie Gorton who will tell us all about “The Egerton Family”.
