PRESS REPORT

OVER PEOVER WOMEN’S INSTITUTE MEETING

THURSDAY 31ST OCTOBER 2013

The Hallowe’en theme was taken as a challenge at the last meeting of Over Peover WI. The results were stunning. I don’t think I have ever sung Jerusalem next to a witch before! Our speaker, Barbara Foster, was unabashed and delighted us with a talk entitled “When did Mick Jagger Sleep Here? It was, in fact, an insight into her 20 years as a volunteer guide, steward and organiser at Dunham Massey, the beautiful National Trust property. After retiring as an infant head-teacher, she volunteered and enjoyed it so much that she eventually persuaded her husband to join her. As costumed guides, they played many parts including Victorian servants, the butler, the Earl and the aristocracy. She said it was akin to being in a Soap Opera. Barbara really brought Dunham Massey to life with her amusing and interesting anecdotes of her long experience as a tour guide and kept us fascinated and laughing throughout.

Members voted on the menu for the Christmas meal which will follow the AGM at the next meeting on Thursday 28th November. We meet at 7.30pm on the last Thursday of the month at Over Peover Village Hall. There is a friendly and welcoming atmosphere and speakers are invariably of a very high standard as are the homemade cakes and tea to follow. New members are always welcome.
